There’s an old saying: “A smile is the shortest distance between two people.” If you’ve entered Gateway Greens between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., chances are you’ve been greeted with one by Captain Stephanie Robinson. Her warm smile and welcoming personality have become a hallmark of our community.
For the past six years, Captain Robinson has managed the front gate while supervising a team of five security officers. Whether she’s greeting residents, welcoming guests, or assisting vendors, she treats everyone with kindness and respect. It’s no surprise that she’s one of the most familiar and appreciated faces in Gateway Greens.
“I love my job here,” Stephanie says. “I’m a people person. I enjoy seeing our regular residents every day and meeting new people. Over the years, many of them have become my friends.”
One of her greatest joys is helping residents—especially seniors—with gate access and phone technology. Her patience and willingness to help have earned her the admiration of many. Residents often express their appreciation with thoughtful gifts, including her favorite candy bar (Snickers), homemade Mediterranean dishes, bottles of her favorite spirits, and plenty of heartfelt thank-yous.
Stephanie’s dedication to serving others began long before she arrived at Gateway Greens. She has two sisters and one brother. As a graduate of Mariner High School, she participated in chorus, basketball, track and field, and flag football. She later joined the U.S. Army with plans to become a military police officer. Although her military career was cut short after being diagnosed with lupus, she received an honorable discharge.
Rather than allowing her diagnosis to define her, Stephanie chose to keep moving forward. “I had too much energy and too much pride to stop working,” she says.
She spent the next 21 years as a manager at Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, where she developed the leadership and customer service skills that have served her so well throughout her career.
In 2017, Domestic Protection Services recognized Stephanie’s leadership potential and sponsored her training to earn her Florida security license. Soon afterward, she was assigned to Gateway Greens—and our community has benefited ever since.
Fortunately, security incidents here are uncommon. Stephanie says the most frequent issues involve an occasional vehicle striking one of the light poles on West Links Drive or damaging the entrance gate arm. Thanks to increased awareness, gate arm damage has declined dramatically and now averages only about once every three months.
While Stephanie is devoted to her work, her greatest source of pride is her family. “I live for my kids,” she says.
She recently purchased a new home and is the proud mother of three sons. Her oldest, Jai’lon, 22, is attending welding school. She is also the permanent guardian of Jairius, 13, and Jermetrius, 11, whom she has lovingly raised since birth. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, trying new foods, and relaxing with her boys while watching sports or Netflix. Her immediate and extended family are her highest priority.
