Many neighborhoods rely on volunteers to ensure that resident voices are heard, make an impact, and who collaborate with neighbors who also want to give back and invest their time to improve their community. They do so by sharing personal and professional experience in meaningful ways.
The Gateway Greens Community Association is proud of these volunteers who spend hours every week in support of HOA initiatives, policies and processes across a range of activities while increasing homeowner engagement. Although committees typically do not make final decisions, they research topics, provide recommendations and take on projects that move community priorities forward. They are critical to “getting things done.”
Gateway Greens’ HOA is fortunate to have active supporting committees: Communications, Design Review, Finance, Fines and Landscape. In this month’s Lifestyle issue, we will highlight the Landscape committee.
Landscape Committee Membership
Our Landscape Committee is chaired by Joe Emond, HOA Board member, and includes community volunteers Rod Coffey, Lauren Lovell, John Tobin (also a Board member) and Don Winklepleck.
Landscape Committee’s Charter and Activities
The Committee’s charter is to enhance aesthetic appeal through planning, implementation, and oversight of landscape management activities in common areas. The Committee is responsible for developing landscape design recommendations, selecting appropriate plant species and ensuring proper maintenance of existing landscaping. Additional responsibilities include preparing an annual budget, ensuring all activities comply with HOA guidelines and providing regular updates to the Board. Through their efforts, the committee members aim to foster community pride and enhance property values.
To achieve its charter, the committee meets monthly to review ongoing projects, evaluate scheduled maintenance, and discuss future initiatives. Given the extensive common‑area property within Gateway Greens—and the need to remain fiscally responsible within the approved budget—priorities often shift based on seasonal conditions and the unpredictable effects of “Mother Nature.”
In 2025, GreatView Lawn Care became our new partner in maintaining and enhancing the community (a significant undertaking!) and we are pleased with GreatView’s contributions.
In addition to weekly and monthly maintenance, GreatView performs a detailed monthly inspection of all irrigation controls, zones, and sprinkler heads. A monthly “ride‑along” with Committee members and GreatView management further ensures that specific areas needing attention are identified and addressed promptly.
Upcoming Projects
While the project list is ever evolving, within the coming months, the Landscape Committee’s focus will be:
• Westlinks Rear Gate (commercial vehicle entrance): A complete redesign of the small strip of land between the road and sidewalk.
• Westlinks Drive (West Side): Replacement of dead or missing shrubs, including Hibiscus, Crotons, Arboricola, Trinette, and Copper Leaf.
• Bent Pine Drive: Preparation of sod beds and lowering of ground level to support irrigation installation for new trees.
A Shared Commitment
The Gateway Greens HOA Board and the Landscape Committee remain committed to maintaining a beautiful, vibrant, and well‑cared‑for community—one we are proud to share with one another and call home. Our volunteers are essential!!
