While investing in the stock market these days may prevent you from sleeping, investing in what surrounds you when you sleep will only improve your sleep cycle. For starters, buy a quality mattress, hypoallergenic pillows, and 100% cotton sheets with a high thread count. Many factors can interfere with a good night’s sleep. You might not be able to control the factors that interfere, but you can adopt habits that encourage better sleep.
IMPROVE SLEEP WITH THESE CORE PRACTICES
Maintain a strict schedule of when you go to bed and wake up. Get outside for natural sunlight soon after waking up to anchor your circadian rhythm. Align your sleep cycles to aim for 7.5 to 8 hours every day, including weekends.
Optimize your environment and habits. Cut your screen time by turning off tv’s, computers and cell phones 60 minutes before bed to avoid blue light. Keep a comfortable temperature in your bedroom, dark and quiet with low or no light around you, and block sounds using white noise. Watch intake of food and beverages. Stop consuming caffeine six hours prior to bed time and finish heavy meals at least three hours before sleeping.
Build a wind-down routine that may include a warm shower or bath. The subsequent drop in core temperature signals your brain it is time to sleep. Read a paperback book, do light stretches, use meditation or listen to calming music. Making small changes to habits and routines that help you sleep can make a real difference in your overall wellbeing. Find your own relaxing routine that helps you quietly engage in better sleep.
Hope this helps with your fitness journey!
