Dust Child by Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai is a historical fiction novel about the lives of Amerasians (children of Vietnamese mothers and American soldiers) during and after the Vietnam War, exploring themes of identity, trauma, and forgiveness through the intersecting stories of a Black Amerasian man searching for his parents, two Vietnamese sisters working in a Saigon bar, and a returning American veteran with PTSD. Published in 2023/2024, the book is based on extensive research and real-life stories, aiming to give voice to the “children of the dust” (bụi đời) and challenge stereotypes, showing their resilience and humanity.
